چکیده

We estimate the accuracy of a 3D range scanner in terms of its spatial frequency response. We determine a scanner’s modulation transfer function (MTF) in order to measure its frequency response. A slanted edge is scanned from which we derive a superresolution edge profile. Its Fourier transform is compared to the Fourier transform of an ideal edge in order to determine the MTF of the device. This allows us to determine how well small details can be acquired by the 3D scanner. We report the results of several measurements with two scanners under various conditions.

Modified slanted-edge method and multidirectional modulation transfer function estimation.

The slanted-edge method specified in ISO Standard 12233, which measures the modulation transfer function (MTF) by analyzing an image of a slightly slanted knife-edge target, is not robust against noise because it takes the derivative of each data line in the edge-angle estimation. We propose here a modified method that estimates the edge angle by fitting a two-dimensional function to the image ...

Low-Frequency MTF Estimation for Digital Imaging Devices Using Slanted Edge Analysis

Modulation transfer function (MTF) metrology and interpretation for digital image capture devices has usually concentrated on midto high-frequency information, relative to the half-sampling frequency. These regions typically quantify characteristics and operations such as sharpening, limiting resolution, and aliasing. However, a potential wealth of low-frequency, visually significant informatio...

Application of Tatian’s Method to Slanted-Edge MTF Measurement

The ISO 12233 method for the measurement of the spatial frequency response (SFR) of digital still cameras and scanners is based on the analysis of slanted-edge image features. The procedure applies a form of edge-gradient analysis to an estimated edge-spread function. As with all measurement, image noise can introduce bias error and variation into the resulting camera SFR and modulation transfe...

A critical review of the slanted-edge method for color SFR measurement

Critical examination of the slanted-edge method for color SFR measurement reveals inaccuracies in the estimated SFR, due to the use of demosaicing. The proposed method resolves these inaccuracies by eliminating the need for demosaicing during SFR measurement. OCIS codes: (110.4100) Modulation transfer function; (110.4850) Optical transfer functions

Fast MTF measurement of CMOS imagers using ISO 12233 slanted-edge methodology

The ISO 12233 standard provides a fast and efficient way of measuring Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of digital input devices (such a digital still camera) using a normalized reflective target based on a slanted-edge method. A similar methodology has been applied for measuring MTF of CMOS image sensors, using 12233 slanted-edge technique associated with a prototype transmissive target. In o...
